Venture Completes Flagship Branch for FirstBank – Nashville

First Bank Nashville exterior
1817 West End Avenue, Nashville, TN 37203

This job consisted of complete site and building construction of a new branch office for FirstBank.

The site was an old gas/service station in a downtown metro area.  There was very limited onsite storage and parking, so materials would have to be stored off site and brought on site only when ready to be installed.  We first had to over excavate the old fuel tank locations in order to provide properly compacted fill dirt.  Due to complications involving the water and sewer pipes, we worked with FirstBank, their engineers and the city to move the sewer connection, which required adding a sewer lift station and force main to the existing sewer tap.

The building consisted of a complete steel frame structure and metal stud framed walls with a vapor mitigation system installed under the building slab due to the fact the building is sitting over the top of the old gas station with possible contamination in the soil.  We engineered the connection methods for the 6” thick granite and 4 ½” thick limestone that the exterior façade consisted of.  The windows consisted of an aluminum curtain wall system, and all of the interior drywall had to be finished to a level 5 finish.  The millwork and wood trim was all custom built on site.  Many of the light fixtures were custom fixtures that required unique methods to install.  We had to work closely with FirstBank’s security personnel to install all of their security measures, ATM and drive thru systems. The History Wall–shown above–that we installed behind the teller area is a mural supplied by FirstBank containing a collage of photos of the local history and of FirstBank.

This job had many challenges, including a very limited space in a downtown area, soil remediation, many unique interior finishes and a marble and granite façade. Venture and FirstBank worked together very closely to overcome these challenges to provide a unique bank branch and corporate office space.

Guinness Fast Build Record

Nine Days…Twenty-three Hours Later…This Hardee’s Is Ready For The Guinness Book Of Records

Venture Construction Company holds the fast build record for the fast food industry.

In one hour less than ten days, Venture built a complete Hardee’s restaurant at Toco Hills Shopping Center in Atlanta, Georgia. The lapsed time extended from ground breaking ceremonies at 11 am on May 15th, 1979 to the final striping of the parking lot and punch out at 10 am May 25th, 1979.

At sunrise the next morning, the new restaurant served its first breakfasts—one of them to Liane Levetan, Dekalb County Commissioner, who served as an official witness to the record setting project.

The building record eclipsed the normal 16-week construction period for Hardee’s restaurants by all but 10 days. Importantly, it demonstrated that both time and money could be reduced in construction.

Over 250 workers were involved in the project. No prefabricated parts were used (except roof trusses). Planning and organization were the keys along with the steady work pace set by the Venture crews.

For companies like Hardee’s, the savings through super-fast construction techniques could—estimated the new owners—total in the millions of dollars. For Venture, it added new efficiencies to what it already believed were among the highest productivity building techniques in the fast food construction business.
